As a president and a team leader of KINGDOM, Mr. Shiokawa has been performing an important role in planning, operation, salon work, web design, public relation, hair fashion show, and photography.
He is currently in the process to develop a new style of KINGDOM by educating the next generation of leaders.

 

What is the general business growth trend for customers coloring their hairs?

As a general business growth trend, I have not heard of any decreases in the hair coloring industry. Rather, it is on the rise or at the least stable. And 30 years ago, the idea of coloring their hair then was merely to add color to the hair. Whereas in the recent time, how to bring out the shine with the coloring of the hair is the method of practice. In that respect, that is the considerable change from the method of the past.

 

At what periodic cycle does the trend change?

At the early days as a beautician, as a start, one-length was the first of the common style of the time. After that, a hair style with layers slowly became popular. And for the past 15 years, a layer with textures and nuances are the cutting-edge. I think Japanese in general are fashionable with strong conservative tendencies. The common popular design trend tends to last longer, but within a few year cycles, there are minor changes to the detail parts of the bangs and the nuances for the sides. Are there changes to the customer’s needs?

For example, it is the same process with choosing a color that brings out the shine of the hair. Most people choose a color for their hair based on the design of their hair. Such as, since the haircut is in this way, so I will go with this color. I think it is less likely that a customer decides on a haircut based on the color of hair they have chosen.

Recently, which type of hair colors do you suggest most?

I suggest color designs that respect the individual’s personality, style, and preferences with the popular trend. In the past, the thought was to match hair color and design to the pupil of the eyes and the skin color. But, we at Kingdom take an opposite approach by how color and design of the hair can beautify the pupil of the eyes and the skin of the individual.

What sort of things do you consider when you do a treatment?

It is important for Kingdom to increase the number of new clients and to continue to make our ties by design to grow together through the years with our current clients.
Beauty, as for appearance as well, from within is important. To be conscious of your health is very important. Since we think that people with good health become motivated to be fashionable, we keep in mind always to study ourselves on how to have our customers to live a healthy long life. Based on our management philosophy for “Beauty, Health, Youth, and Longevity,” we tell our staff on a daily basis that as a professional to not cut corners and to aggressively tackle even the troublesome things.

 

So it means to not focus only to the superficial beautification and conveniences.

Yes. We can provide our customers with technically difficult designs other than monochrome such as highlighting and lowlighting which are not available for home use. At the same time, it is important for us to provide our customers with the necessary information properly. You are able to dye your hair at home for 1,000yen. But, when you continue to do it for 10 or 20years, we do not think your hair and body remain healthy.
Everyone ages and the outcome of your health are determined by the food you ate and things you have used. So, we think that it is necessary to explain accurately without delay to our customers.

 

When did you start dealing with Staffs?

Although, one manufacturer intermediates between us, we have been using the color chart for 30 years. STAFFS is professional at making things and we are professional at arranging products made by STAFFS. That is our role.

 

What is the difficulty when you apply hair coloring?

We can do nothing but to give our customer the image of the color beforehand.
For example, even if you point to a hair bundle and say that you wish it to be this color, since the original hair was dyed from gray hair, the dyed black hair therefore will not be identically the same as there natural hair.
When I blend the hair color agents, I have to consider the customer's eye color, skin color and the clothing that they wear.
That is interesting and difficult.

 

How do you use the color chart?

It is a necessary item for us to understand what our customer says.
The imagining process of what the customer have in-mind as a color to match that to the views of ours is one of the factor.

 

What is the attractive point of the STAFF’s color chart?

I feel that our single-color dyeing has become the differentiating factor with other competing companies. We have also have added a twist to the appearance and the arrangement of the chart so you become motivated just by looking at it is the part that is attractive. We have our own color chart but STAFF’s color chart is the foundation of all charts.
