Mr. Yukihiko Shiraki, the CEO of “Staffs” would like to explain how hard he devoted himself to dyeing which has been the strong point of “Staffs” as well as the history of the company. He has been engaged in the field of dyeing from the beginning of the company.
Below is the company history disclosed through the interviewing Mr. Shiraki.
Establishment of the company Tell me how the company was first established.
My grandfather used to engage in a type of dyeing called “Katanassen” in which pigments are poured into patterns, and my father succeeded his father’s job. I am from a family of craftsmanship art of which has been passed down for generations. Because Oushu has been a center of fabric production, there are many artisans around me. I started working in this field ever since I was a little over 20 years old. The very reason I started this company is due to the fact that my uncle sent a color chart to me from America and said “You should color your products for additional value!” as he himself had a chance to take a look at the color chart. As I had already dyeing skill at that time, I said to myself “OK, let me try!” and I had no hesitation to start the company. It has been already over 40 years since then.
Strong points of the company “STAFFS”
What are the strong points or special features of your products?
Our dyeing technology is the strongest point among many others. Honestly speaking, dyeing is the most difficult part among others, and it is the strongest point of our technology. The method of mix color dyeing is the mainstream in foreign countries.
But we dare to use the method of single color dyeing which requires more time and cost.
The single-color dyeing is the best method to create real natural colors. Although we have enough equipment and craftspersons for dyeing today, we are still making efforts everyday toward reaching the perfect level. Our products have been highly valued by our customers, and they say that our color charts are so easy to make a selection since they are so natural. We also have a good reputation among the foreign countries such as Thailand and Vietnam.
With the hair color
Nowadays the hair coloring is popular in Japan, too, but the situation was different when you established the company, wasn’t it?
Yes, you are right. At that time the culture of hair coloring was not spread so much in Japan. But somehow or other we could manage to continue our business while facing various troubles. Gradually we felt confident in ourselves. We are still repeating trial and error every day. But as we had a lot of experiences, we feel proud that we can provide our customers with the products which satisfy them.
Would you tell us about the company policy and motto?
You would understand it if you read the “Shakun” in which company policy is written set up in our office. I dare to say “Stay positive” in a word. We are constantly trying to be ready to respond to all the demands that our customers have at all times.
Devotion toward Oushu
When do you feel happy while operating the company?
We did establish a strong presence of our company “Staffs” in the world of hair color industry. It took a long time though. That was the happiest time for me above all. I am very happy that we can contribute to the community of our hometown “Oushu” in the form of increasing the number of local employment.
